How Diet Can Help You to Stay Looking Younger

There’s no way to reverse the aging process…yet, but in a decade or two, we’ll be seeing huge breakthroughs. However, in the meantime, you can help to slow the aging process.

There’s many ways to do this, from taking collagen tablets to exercising everyday (but not too rigorously). One of the best things that you can do for yourself, though, is to eat the right foods. Here we’re going to look at the best diet for maintaining your youthful looks, and we’ll explain why these foods are so good.

The Antioxidants

As we move through our environments, we collect free radicals. These cause instability in the body’s cells. Free radicals are a natural by-product of bodily functions, as well as being present in pollutants. So, even if the world were perfectly healthy and free from pollution, we’d still accumulate free radicals.

Over time, free radicals can damage the body’s systems. They can damage skin, hair, organs, etc. When this happens, it can make us look older than we really are. For example, damaged skin loses its collagen, looks washed out, and generally appears less healthy.

Fortunately, we can eliminate these toxins from the body by consuming anti-oxidants. These have the added electron that’s needed to stabilise the free radicals. There are many foods that have antioxidant properties, and you should eat a good selection of such foods. These include:

  • Wild blueberry
  • Pinto bean
  • Blueberry
  • Cranberry
  • Red Beans
  • Pecan
  • Russet Potato
  • Cherry
  • Plum
  • Artichoke hearts
  • Prunes
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Apples (especially Red Delicious, Gala, and Granny Smith)
  • Carrots
  • Broccoli
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Squash
  • Kale
  • Mangoes
  • Oranges
  • Peaches
  • Cabbage
  • Tomato
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Green leafy vegetables
  • Kiwi
  • Fish liver oil

This is not an exhaustive list, but it will give you a good idea of the type of food that you should be eating if you want to maintain your youthful looks for as long as possible.

The main antioxidants are:

  1. Vitamin C
  2. Vitamin A
  3. Vitamin E
  4. Coenzyme Q10
  5. Manganese
  6. Iodide
  7. Melatonin (this is part of the reason why sleep is so important – your body fixes itself as you sleep).

Again, there are many other types of antioxidants, but these are the commonest. It’s important that your diet contain a balanced amount of all of these antioxidants.

Fat Face

You might not realise it, but one of the main signallers of youth are a chubby face. This is not strictly fat per say, but more like scaffolding. This scaffolding (that keeps your face plump, your lips hydrated, your eyes up) is called collagen. You can take collagen tablets, but you can also help to improve your own body’s collagen production by eating the right foods. Foods that help boost the body’s collagen production include:

  • Cabbage
  • Soy
  • Red fruits and vegetables
  • Beans
  • Carrots
  • Coconut Oil
  • Flaxseed
  • Olives
  • Citrus fruit
  • Avocado
  • Turkey

As you can see, eating a good and healthy diet will help you to maintain your youthful looks for longer. Plus, just look through the list, there’s plenty of scrumptious meals that you can make from this lot!
