Recurrent Bouts of Constipation: What Helps?

If you’ve ever suffered from recurrent bouts of constipation, then you have truly experienced frustration. It’s such a horrible thing to suffer with. It makes you feel uncomfortable; it makes your clothes fit badly; and, it makes you feel slow, lethargic and sluggish. However, there are things that you can do to help yourself. Here, we’re going to consider the initial steps that you should take if you have constipation.

If, once you have tried these different steps, you still suffer from constipation, then you may need to use a supplement such as Colosan, or do an elimination diet to see if it’s being caused by a reaction with your food. For example, dairy intolerance often leads to irritable bowels. In the meantime, we’re assuming that you aren’t suffering too much, and that the condition is relatively temporary. The following steps will help to ensure that your bowels stay regular.

Non-soluble fibre: non-soluble fibre is nature’s sweep. It moves through the digestive tract and literally clears everything away. It makes sure that your intestines and bowels remain clean and functional. Without fibre, compacted faecal matter would accumulate in your digestive system and this will cause several problems, including lethargy (because you’re not getting the nutrients and minerals you need) and constipation. To stay regular, eat plenty of fibre. This means eating a wide range of fruit and vegetables, as well as whole grains and oats.

Bulk up: sometimes, your body will need a little bit of extra help, and at these times you can make use of a bulking agent or supplement, such as Colosan. Bulking agents are just a quick and simple way of introducing fibre into your system. They will make your stools softer and less painful to pass. If you don’t want to take a supplement, then a natural bulker, like prunes, will offer almost the same benefits.

Stay hydrated: one of the main reasons that people become constipated is because they are dehydrated. When you don’t take enough water, your intestines will literally squeeze out as much as they can from the food you eat. The more water they squeeze out, the tighter and more compact become your stools, which consequently lead to constipation. Make sure you drink at least eight glasses of water a day and on days when you’re constipated, up this intake by one or two glasses.

Exercise: as your metabolism speeds up, your food is processed much faster. The faster it’s processed, the less time it spends being squeezed in the intestines, and consequently, the less likely you are to suffer from constipation. Exercise keeps your metabolism working and it keeps food moving through the body.

Avoid some medications: when you have a poorly tummy, it can be tempting to reach for the paracetamol. Unfortunately, it’s well known to cause constipation, and it becomes increasingly the case when it’s mixed with codeine. Other medications can cause constipation too, so before you take it, do some research and help yourself to avoid becoming constipated.

If you’ve tried all of these options then you might start to think about treatment that is more complex and diagnostics, such as eliminations diets.
